My father was with me on a long trip to Austin. After a few weeks, he began to get frustrated that he wasn't finding any restauants, aside from cracker barrel, that served the type of food Lubys does.

We went back and forth for about 4 days as to whether we wanted to eat here, but eventually, dad's "meat and potatoes" diet broke his will and he insisted we try it. He's in his 70s, and he never eats anything "green."

I say the above because, when we went, he went straight for the green beans. I was shocked! He had fish (I think it was fried cod.) A roll, green beans, some corn..

I had corn, mac n cheese, and a roll. Because I didn't really feel like meating that day.

I was shocked at how good it was. I hate to say that because it sounds sensationalized. But, ok.. let me back up. I'm weird about corn. Corn has to be crispy for me. If its smushy, I dont want it. (creamed corn is my enemy.) The corn here was PERFECT. The roll was perfect. Dad said the fish was "like what Picadilly used to have before they changed management and went out of business." (which means it was good. I used to get that cod myself and I dont eat fish.. as I said above. But that cod, I liked.)

If you want a cafeteria style restaurant with home cooking style food, this is worth a try! Especially if you're surrounded by 400 burger joints, 800 taco joints, and all you want is some fish and green beans.

This is the second time we've dined here this week and both times we got the Fan Favorite it includes a choice of 3 entrees 2 sides and bread.
Today we had king ranch casserole and it was great and the amount was perfect sides with pinto beans, spinach yams were all great. The next $6.99 I've spent in along time.

Ok so yummy!  The Luann platter is a half portion of food but it is still a lot. The Mac and cheese  is the best.
The young lady Nancy that waited our table was great. Thank you Luby's.

    Worst service at this location.

    To-go orders slow.

Glad they're going out of business.

I grew up going to Luby's whenever my grandmother was in town. I felt nostalgic last week and decided to revisit Luby's. The staff was really friendly, during our meal someone came by to check on us which I found sweet.

Being a foodie I love looking at all the food options and then picking what I want. I ordered half of a fried fish and two sides. The fish came with really tasty tarter sauce. For my sides I got the cold carrot salad, my grandmother always ordered it, and mac n' cheese. I ordered a water to save money. My entire meal was around $8.50.

Surprising the carrot salad was my favorite thing. It was refreshing and unique (even though it's an old school dish). I need to remember to go to Luby's more often!
